Design in two days brand, idea and concept

Overview

The idea of this project was an exercise of not more than two days, designing a fintech APP, including the brand design, an on-boarding process and a basic home.

Benchmark

Before starting with this exercise, I did a little bit of research of existing fintechs APP's in order to be able to understand the offering to the market, and the different possibilities of each of them.
The products analysed were: N26, Revolut, Wise, B-Next.

Structure

Comparing digital banking services like Wise, Bnext, N26, and Revolut reveals both similarities and differences in their offerings. While Wise and Bnext share many similarities, N26 offers additional features. However, Revolut stands out as the most comprehensive option on the market currently, offering not only the same services as its competitors but also additional features in benefits, investments, stocks, and cryptocurrencies.

Key observations
- All four companies charge a minimum fee for international transfers, which is a common drawback
- Withdrawal limits vary among the companies, with maximum daily or monthly withdrawal amounts and limits on the number of withdrawals per month

Market trends
Something that I've noticed as well is the evolution of the kind of offerings of each company. While initially there was no comission in international transfers and unlimited withdrawals, they have gradually adapted and limited these services based on market demand.

Subscription plans
Each company offers different subscription plans, offering a huge variety of benefits within. This aspect is the one that appears as an opportunity for creating a distinct value proposition in the market.

With all the analysis carried out thanks to the Benchmark and all the elements, features, and solutions studied that each product offers, I had to prioritise in order to define the product.

Idea

I've made a matrix prioritisation, specifically one that analyses the value for the user compared to the feasibility of execution. From this prioritisation, the following items appeared:

  • Limit of cash withdrawal without commission

  • Access to benefits

  • Cashback

  • Purchase protection

  • Refund for 90 days

Flow Chart

After studying how this fintech platforms operate, particularly focusing on the onboarding process and the required information to create an account and navigate the platform, I have created the following flowchart to illustrate what this process would look like.

Brand identity

With the idea and the main features that this product is going to have, I've started thinking on the brand identity.. The choice of the name was the result of personal reflection based on money and savings. I thought about an ant, and I searched for different translations of the same word until I came across 'Ameise' in German. This name is due to the persistence, teamwork, and above all, the unstoppable dedication and ability to achieve great things through small but constant individual contributions.

With Ameise, the idea is to convey that even small savings and efforts can lead to significant long-term financial growth.

Brand identity

Save small, achieve big

Brand identity

This phrase aims to encourage users to recognize the value of each small contribution to their financial goals. We encourage consistency and persistence in saving, demonstrating that every small step forward is significant progress toward long-term financial success.

Design System

The design system I've created was extremely helpful in making the screens I wanted. It let me pick colours, fonts, and other crucial elements I needed to make everything look consistent, good and reflecting the look and feel that I intended that Ameise had.

Splash Screens

For the Splash Screens I had take into account the main features of my idea, trying to represent and create a story behind this. As they appear here, they give the user a glimpse of what you can get of this offering.

  • Withdraw cash without extra costs

  • Access exclusive benefits

  • Save with every purchase

  • Shop with confidence, always protected

  • 90-day money-back guarantee

On-Boarding

Here's some of the screens of the On-Boarding of the APP, taking into account the flowchart showed before, and a glimpse of how the Home screen could look like.
